Bird Ring

I've been looking for cute rings to wear on a more regular basis. I've discovered that I don't really like oversized rings everyday - this one is cute and not too ginaormous, but is a pricey $175 at Diani. Oh look, just noticed it's 100% reclaimed metal, meaning it's eco-friendly!

Recycled Horn Collar

I was looking for a thin, silver metal collar as the one I have is rather overwhelming on my small self, and came across this beautiful piece! Made from recycled cow horn and handcrafted by artisans in Africa to promote fair trade and sustainability, buy at Anthropologie for $238.

Check Out Della

Della is a line of fashionable bags and accessories, meeting vegan standards, that are hand-made from fabrics purchased locally in Ghana, and constructed by seamstresses in the village of Hohoe. Della is a for-profit company dedicated to empowering women through business. The seamstresses are not only employed for competitive wages, but are given free trade training, and are enrolled in educational programs in micro-financing, developing savings, and the art of entrepreneurship. The above is quoted from their press release, sorry, I'm way lazy!! BUT, the pieces speak for themselves - could you not die over the clutches?? You can buy straight from their site, but soon you should be able to buy lots of their cute pieces at ModCloth as well!

H&M Conscious Collection

H&M has introduced the Conscious Collection – The collection which is for women, men and children is made from enviromentally – adapted and greener materials such as organic cotton, Tencel and recycled polyester.
In various shades of white (is Summer White as awesome as Winter White?), the pieces are romantic and floaty, featuring lots of Broderie Anglaise (Googled: Type of French embroidery, reminds me of eyelet), lace and a few minimal pieces. Some of my favorite items are above - I must have that Grecian dress! As I mentioned before, there are menswear and children's clothing as well! Everything is H&M affordable (you know, in the $50 to $125 range) and in stores now! Go forth and buy to wear for Earth Day this Friday!

My Style Challenge: Utilitarian Snow Boots

I was sweetly gifted these amazing Timberland eco-friendly boots back in September, but living south of the Mason Dixon line meant nice and warm weather until just recently. So I've finally gotten around to creating a outfit around them!Sure it would be easy to pair some utilitarian boots with some jeans and a chunky knit sweater! And that's probably what I would wear on an average snowy day. But that's not really "fashion blog worthy," don't you think? So I decided to pair the boots with a black side slit maxi dress and berry pink tights! Paired with my moto corduroy jacket and a knit turban, it's a fun, unexpected winter look!
I'm wearing: lavender corduroy jacket by French Connection, ASOS knit turban, super old maxi dress, the label says Exact Change, tights by Kushy Foot, and Earthkeepers snow boots courtesy of Timberland.
I LOVE my knit turban!

Diamond Studs With Chain Backs

Diamond Studs With Chain BacksThese diamond studs have a chain connecting to their backs - I LOVE THIS!! Not only do they take a classic and make it look totally unique, but you will never loose the backs, ahah. Currently out of stock at Catbird, this gives me time to save up for the $400 price tag. I'd also like to note that the diamonds are "reclaimed" from vintage jewelry, making them conflict-free!

Lust for Less: Mixed Africa Print Skirt

I love mixed print pieces - you get the look without the effort of mixing items yourself. I know it's lazy, but hey there's nothing wrong with that!Everyone who's anyone in the fashion industry is obsessed with Suno. Well, this skirt is a great example of why! But at a $345 price tag at Barney's, I know I can't allow myself to buy it :(
Here's a more affordable version that's even on sale! Just at $21 ASOS, I'm tres tempted!

Ashton Michael Black Label S/S '11

Designer Ashton Hirota showed his Ashton Michael Black Label line at New York Green Fashion Week, and I was totally wowed by the collection. Ashton Michael described it as "An eco-friendly capsule collection inspired by post punk and androgyny," to which I respond with a big HELL YES! Featuring fabrics made from recycled materials such as plastic water bottles, coconut and bamboo, Ashton showed that fashion designers can be both Green and fashion forward.

The collection was all about grungy rock-style badassery, in fact, I think I may have have picked up a little unwashed rocker cred just by being in the same room. The models stomped down the runway in custom designed Doc Martens and bearing a multitude of (mostly?) temporary tattoos pausing only to gaze over the heads of the audience with a disinterested cool. With black and white being the sole fabric colors, there was no lack of texture or visual interest. A heavily deconstructed look reduced many of the garment to mere shreds with large hanging loops of fabric and low slung bondage like straps.

Susan Cianciolo S/S '11

Susan Cianciolo was the only designer from The Green Shows that I was able to attend. There were lots of pretty pieces, but the collection didn't feel as cohesive as I would like, and there were some really "generic ethic" pieces in there. Like something you would see mass produced for tourists in Bali or something. Check out all my pictures here:

Suno S/S '11

SUNO was one of the best presentations of the seaon, bringing in hoardes of top editors usually only seen in the front row! There's been a huge buzz about them since their Fall collection, just a few days ago Rachel Biilson was wearing them out on the town. They employ local Keyan talent, making them eco-friendly and ethical as well! I definitely felt like a cool kid for being invited! There were a lot of expectations, and Max Osterweis and Erin Beatty rose to the occasion! Thier inspiration began with illustrations and lithographs done for the Ballet Russes. Their aim was to be a little more ethereal and transcendent for this collection.

The prints were to die for, particularly mixed together, and there was a white leather tank dress with lace lasercut outs that I will be stalking come spring.
The printed wedges and flats designed by Suno with Loeffler Randall will also be availble for purchase in spring and I MUST HAVE A PAIR OMGPONIES!1!!!

It’s VIEable: Eco-Friendly Accessories

We’d like to dedicate this post for all you “green” gals. As being eco-friendly is becoming more of a lifestyle rather than just a trend, a number of fashion brands are really starting to embrace this good-for-the-earth practice. By using recycled and non-leather materials, these brands are keeping environmental damage to a minimum. But being sustainable doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style.

Take this selection of eco-friendly accessories for example. We chose a studded Matt & Nat bag that looks like real leather but is completely vegan. Muratori is environmentally-conscious collection of high-end handbags and its Twiggy burgundy doctor bag is a classic piece that will last for seasons to come. If you’re looking for a more affordable bag option, pick up this faux leather satchel by Big Buddha. For our jewelry picks, we’re loving Alex and Ani’s gold-plated bangles and turquoise cocktail ring, which are both made from recycled metals. All of these stylish pieces below just goes to show you that being “green” is ever so chic.

Velvet Cage Wedges: Now & Later

Ooo, what a great pair of shoes, which are a super affordable $44 at PlasticLand and vegan-friendly!

So how to wear them now?Finding the perfect balance between global and feminine, why not pair with a full skirt with silver dome beading and a pretty ruffled top? A frame bag and straw cloche makes it a look even Blair Waldorf would approve of.
When the trees start turning pretty colors, the shoes would look super fab paired with some opaque tights. Jazz up a basic sweater dress by layering a fur gilet over it, and then top it all off with a great leopard print belt!

ASOS Africa
Here are a few of the super pretty, just perfect for summer pieces of ASOS Africa! The clothing and accessory collection is sourced and produced by community groups in Africa, with the aim of trade.

I love the pattern options, some super bright and others more muted but just as fun and interesting. It's very well-rounded and cohesive, and my only compliant is that there's just not enough of it!

Love From Emma

Hold the phone, when did Emma Watson create a collection with ethical UK fashion label People Tree??? It seems it launched in February, why didn't anyone alert me to this??

The collection looks comfy and seems to have something for everyone - a dash of boho here, some prep there and some British edge scattered in between. Prices range from $30 for a tank top to $197 for a hand knit cardigan. Of course everything is organic and fair trade, and you can buy at Asos.
