Mipsterz

"Wait, they hate us cuz we're Muslims? I thought they hated us cuz we were hipsters!"

I love this video. I know there's been some controversy over it, but I love how these girls express themselves while still practicing their faith. I feel like Islam is a very foreign and kinda scary concept to many Americans, and I love how these girls show how fun and and every day they are.

Somewhere In America from Habib Yazdi on Vimeo.

UPDATE: Aww video was delated because apparently some dummies did not get permission to actually use the music. Here's an animated GIF from it to give you at least an idea:

Talking About Fashion... That Doesn't Exists

This went around all over yesterday but I wanted to share in case you hadn't seen it!

SO MEAN BUT SO TRUE. Fashion kids tend to just make things up all the time, it's all about talking with conviction, right? "It's called fashion, look it up."

I'd like to think that if I was there I would admit if I didn't know a designer, but then I probably just wouldn't have made it into this clip.

Abercrombie & Fitch - For Cool Kids Only?

When I first heard that Abercrombie &Fitch CEO had said his stores didn't sell XL or XXL sizes to keep the not so cool kids from wearing their clothing... I was honestly more confused than enraged. I really thought we had moved past only size zero kids being in the "in crowd!" Sure the athletic kids tended to be cool, but in my high school being an XL and being popular was not mutally exclusive by any means.

Even MTV knows bitchy cheerleaders come in all sizes!
In the end I was like, whatever, I don't shop there and, if they manage to still exist years in the future, I will not let my kids shop there.

But one man proved more could be done, in the most hilarious way possible! He scoured his local thrift shop for all the A&F clothing and donated them all to the homeless! I'm all about making this a thing, hahah.

Target Spring Fling

I'm tres excited to be working with Target to feature fab spring fashion! After all, they have become almost synonymous with "budget chic" with great designer collaborations and cute brands of their own! I have a killer faux suede jacket people die over, and they're shocked to see it's Mossimo!

And now they're getting into the world of interactive shopping:
Shoppable videos?? The future is here! I love the trends they highlight, which are wearable and easy to incorporate into your wardrobe. I've got to say I'm now coveting:

A floral anorak for just $40? This piece is just plain epic and would look amaze over a flippy dress and some tall boots!
Polka dot pants are super fetch - I'm wearing a pair right now! This minty pair would look killer with a navy sweater and cute wedges. Buy for just $25.
My favorite trend for spring? Acid pastel fluoresce! This ombre sweatshirt fits perfectly with the emerging trend of sporty comfort. Plus it's only $18!

It’s Time for Springtime!

Duro Olowu for jcp

Yay Duro Olowu for jcp is available today! You may not have heard of Duro Olowu before, but let me tell you it is one of the most popular, impossible to get into shows at NYFW.

The pieces are very bright, tribal summer-esque, and include dresses, shoes, jewelry and more! Prices are super affordable too, most items are under $50 and I don't see anything more than $100! I wish I wasn't so broke, I would definitely go on a spree today!

Shake It Out

Many of you know I dance, but not sure how many of you know the type of dance I do! Well, I'm coming out - I've been a pole dancer for a few years and I recently performed a very special routine. I worked on it to help me get through some of the toughest parts of my divorce, to let me know it's ok to get down but that, in the end, things will work out. I hope you enjoy watching it!

Diane von Furstenberg F/W '12

Diane von Furstenberg was a madhouse yet again this season! But of course, she's got such fabulous clothing, everyone wants to be there, and everything there is tres excited! And no, she didn't disappoint!

Silhouettes were sleek, with sultry sheer accents revealing just enough! Coats were billowing, and the color palette featured bold red, black and dark lapis. And I just went bananas over the shiny puzzle pieces!
I loved the prints and use of color, the girl who wear this clothing is chic, sophisticated and mysterious!
You definitely need to check out all the photos:

And you have to watch my video of the final model walk as well!

Geoffrey Mac F/W '12

I got invited to the Geoffrey Mac show, which I totally didn't know much about. But I was so happy I went, as he's dressed kick ass women like Lady Gaga, Debbie Harry, The Scissor Sisters, & Nikki Minaj!

Yeah, I can definitely see Lady Gaga rocking a look like this! The collection was super sculptural and amazing to look at... and yet there were a few items I could actually see any every day girl wearing!
Wow, super pretty! Love the colorblocking and the 40s style silhouette!
But really the high drama was the best!! Who needs Madonna cone boobs when they can be on your hips instead? Go big or go home!! Check out all my shots:
And I got video too:

Lela Rose F/W '12

Lela Rose was a super pretty show that was so relate-able to the girly girl who loves her some romance!

Inspiration for the collection was the works of Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. There were pretty prints, lace and lace details, floral embroideries, and fabulous shoes for Payless! Loved the color palette, which included deep reds, mustard, magenta, ivory and black.
I suppose there was some architectural details, particularly in the graphic prints, but to me the collection felt soft and pretty! See for yourself:

Christian Siriano F/W '12

Strangely, this is the first time I've gone to a Christian Sirano show since I saw him in the Project Runway finale show! Possibly because his first major show in the tents was such a mess most people didn't get in and I just didn't want to bother again. This season I decided to try since he was off-site, but it was a bit of a cluster again. I got stuffed in the third row and have crap photos, doh!

This season Siriano was inspired by bats, particulately from the '30s film "The Vampire Bat." You can definitely see the wings in many of the pieces, lots of fluttering and dark, gothic colors.
The above capelet sheath dress also came in white and was quite lovely!
His main talent has got to be evening wear - Siriano is all about drama! His pieces belong more on the red carpet than the average woman, which is perhaps why I never actually see his clothes for sale anywhere.

Check out all the pictures, sorry they're not the best but shooting between heads is difficult!

And a video!

Jill Stuart F/W '12

Jill Stuart is another show I've been attending for quite a few seasons now! I love the label, which almost always pulls out girls frocks and wearable pieces that you immediately covet.

These prints are so major and I love them mixed together!! Inspired by women musicians like PJ Harvey, fall was definitely darker, with blacks, maroons and navys, but still had her typical girly prints! She rocked florals and sexy sheer panels and super fabulous lace!
Feminine and sophisticated, maybe a touch Mad Men at times, I loved how the everyday woman could wear most of the clothes to work!
This dress is everything! No words!

You know you want to see all my photos:

And watch the video!

WAYNE F/W '12

WANYE was all about the preparatory animal, particularly the snake and fox. Rawr!

There was mostly black and grey coloring, with an occasion red flourish. Loved the leather and reptile skins & prints (of course), with fur and silk mixed in for funsies. Very comfortable looking, with a bit of a sporty vibe - perfect for chasing (or slithering) down your prey!
Looky at all the pictures here:

And a video of the final walk!

Rebecca Minkoff F/W '12

Rebecca Minkoff opened with a performance by rapper Theophilus London which was pretty cool! This season she re-imagined the protagonist of the documentary Long Way Round - "a girl with moxie."

Yes a good way to describe the girl who would buy this collection, with its sequined pants, bright jewel tones, play on menswear, and brocade touches!
I loved her use of prints on dresses, perfect for parties or a chic weekend in the city! I especially loved her black & white kaleidoscope prints like the column dress below!
And don;t forget all the bags and footwear  and ever tech accessories are also Rebecca Minkoff! See all my pictures:

And watch the final model walk:

Rebecca Taylor F/W '12

Rebecca Taylor is one of my favorite designers... yet I still don't own anything from her! I'm in love with her girly pieces and fabulous outerwear and I was totally blown away with this collection!

I die for this ombre leopard print coat
It was actually a bit darker and edgy this season, and yet you could still see the feminine roots. Lots of leather, sequins and sparkly embellishment, chunkier knits, and tweeds with paired with her great prints and silky dresses!
This is the second show to have a long pleated skirt with sheer panels!
The collection was a perfect blend of uptown girl and downtown edge - definitely looking forward to fall all of a sudden!

Libertine F/W '12

Libertine is one of the super fun shows with bold looks and an upbeat attitude! A helping of avant-garde, a dash of irony and more than a little street, the label is always popular with the downtown cool kids who like to stand out!

This season was blinged out, with sequins and embellishments and studded paillettes, contrasted with the plaids, wools and tweeds they were on! It made for a Brooks Brothers went to a rave collection... hells yeah!
The shoes were a glittery mixed print bonanza of fun! I so badly wanted to tear a pair from the models' feet, but somehow I managed to keep control. I wonder if they're a feasible DIY project!
The models all danced around the runway after the show! Here are all my pics:

I got video of the models dancing, though it's a touch shakey, especially when I think to grab my camera!

BCBG MAXAZRIA F/W '12

"For Fall 2012, an artful proposition: harmoniously synthesize shape and color in new elongated proportions, fusing form and function to create a geometric abstraction of Bauhaus style." Ahahah, yeah, that's the type of descriptions given that I need to translate to all of you!

BCBG had sheer details, lightweight fabrics juxtaposed with heavier outerwear, a rich fall palette and colorblocking! Lots of navy and burgundy and camel, silk dresses and separates and wool coats.
I was drawn to the blue and green color combo and I just died over this pleated skirt!! Don't you just adore the sheer bit for a dash of zexy?? I imagine wearing it over a short nude slip, longer to make it work for the office.
I pretty, super sophisticated gown with a sheer hem! The collection was very pretty, full of wearable, cute pieces that were refined and classic without being boring. Check out all my pictures:

And here's the final runway walk to see some of the clothing in motion:

Designer to Watch: Dora Abodi

Award-winner Hungarian fashion designer Dora Abodi has only had three collection, but really stands out as someone to watch! Extremely contemporary and a touch experimental, this designer also believes fashion should be ethical - no labour exploitation, no real fur or exotic leathers and often using recycled materials!Mixing elegant, handcrafted details with a feminine whimsy, and reminds me a bit of Karen Walker, Erin Fetherston and Rad Hourani all thrown together. She draws inspiration for so many places, literature, comic books, science fiction, nature, the fine arts, that it's hard to really pinpoint her aesthetic. But in a good way!Besides womenswear she also designs super cute purses, shoes and hats that I now covet! Unfortunately the only place you can find her online is Cinna Edua, a UK boutique. And they only have two items in stock right now! You can email her site about purchasing items, but for some reason that scares me :O So could some stores in the States PLEASE start stocking her?? She's be great for Pixie Market or Opening Ceremony, don't you think?

Here's a video of her Spring '10 show:
